A Local Credit Union That Cares

Zogo-Financial Literacy App

What is financial literacy?

Financial literacy is having the knowledge to effectively manage your personal finances. The finance world is complicated, and financial literacy is the key to making important financial decisions with confidence. As your credit union, we are committed to providing you with resources to help you make the most of your money.

Why is financial literacy important?

Only 1 in 6 public high school students in the U.S. complete a personal finance course. Without this knowledge, you could fall victim to unsustainable debt, bad credit, and other consequences. If you've found yourself wishing you had learned about credit, taxes, investing, borrowing money, and saving for retirement in school, you’re not alone. No matter your financial literacy level, it’s always good to keep learning and growing.

What is Zogo?

Zogo is a gamified financial literacy app that pays you to learn about finance. You’ll work your way through bite-sized financial literacy lessons, and get rewarded with gift cards to your favorite stores. We partnered with Zogo to sponsor our members’ financial education because they simplify complex topics, and make it fun and rewarding.

The app includes nearly 400 modules in 22 different topics, from opening a bank account to saving for retirement - and everything in between.

How it Works

  • Sign up and earn pineapples.
  • Earn pineapples by taking bite-sized modules on topics you’d like to learn more about.
  • Take short quizzes and participate in trivia games to earn more pineapples.
  • Exchange your pineapples for gift cards!

Wailuku FCU members receive access to the Zogo platform at no cost. The app is well-designed and a lot of fun! If you are interested in trying it out, download Zogo for free, use your Maui zip code, and choose Wailuku Federal Credit Union from the drop down list that appears. If you have a non-Maui zip code and no drop down list appears, use the code “WFCU” when you sign up.

What can you learn about while earning gift cards?

  • Budgeting: Learn strategies for saving money, how to build a budget, and how to build wealth.
  • Saving for Retirement: Learn about the differences between Roth and traditional 401(k)s, the benefits of investing early for retirement, how to choose a retirement plan, and more.
  • Investing: Learn investment vocabulary, how to start investing, and how to protect your investments.
  • Life Events: Learn how to manage big financial life events, like going to college, renting an apartment, buying a house, buying a car, and more.

We hope these resources are useful to you!

I have been doing business with Wailuku Federal Credit Union for 11 years now. Walking into the branch feels like stepping into one of my family member’s home. I’m always greeted by a friendly face such as the team members Alyssa, Kellie, and Brandi just to name a few. Mahalo Wailuku FCU for treating me like family.
