Wailuku Federal Credit Union, formerly Wailuku Community Federal Credit Union, was chartered in January 1955 with the help of a Wailuku business man, Mr. Manuel S. Molina, who felt that there was a need for a credit union in Wailuku. Before starting his own business, Mr. Molina was exposed to credit unions through his work at the pineapple company, which had its own credit union. After leaving the pineapple company and opening a business in Wailuku, Mr. Molina spoke with a director from Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Federal Credit Union to learn how he could start a credit union in Wailuku. He then organized a committee made up of Wailuku business people. The committee began meeting and filing the necessary documentation with the National Credit Union Administration. In January 1955, Wailuku Community FCU received its federal charter. There have been no major changes except for dropping the word "Community" from our name.
The first office of Wailuku FCU was in the "White Spot Café" on Main Street, owned and operated by Mr. Molina. Mr. Molina was also the Manager, Treasurer and Secretary of Wailuku FCU. Mr. Molina always said his place was the "only place you could save money, pay your loan and have a beer".
In 1970, the Wailuku FCU broke ground at 175 N. Market Street in Wailuku, right next door to Mr. Molina's bar.
To better serve our members, we have now moved to a beautiful new facility located at 133 Ma'a Street, Kahului in the Maui Lani Village Center.
Our credit union continues to operate with the same core values that it was founded upon which are:
- Social Responsibility — make the community a better place, people helping people
- Honesty and Integrity — do what is right for the member and the credit union
- Relationships — developed through honesty and integrity, exceeding expectations
- Service — as the credit union saying goes: "Not for profit, not for charity, but for service"
- Education — educate our staff to allow us to educate our members
MISSION STATEMENT: To make a positive difference in our community.
